About The Resilient Infrastructure for Adaptation and Vulnerability Reduction (RIVER)

The Resilient Infrastructure for Adaptation and Vulnerability Reduction (RIVER) is a project funded by the World Bank to help Bangladesh improve disaster preparedness against inland flooding in 14 flood-prone districts benefiting over 1.25 million people. Under this project 500 climate resilient multipurpose flood shelters and connecting roads will be constructed. As a low-lying Delta, Bangladesh is highly vulnerable to climate changes and natural disasters. This project is aligned to contribute to the Bangladesh Delta Plan 2100 as well as World Bank Group’s Climate Change Action Plan 2021- 25.

We Ensure

Quality Assurance

The Resilient Infrastructure for Adaptation and Vulnerability Reduction project identifies four main processes in its Quality Management practice. The first of these is Quality Planning, followed by Quality Assurance, Quality Control and Quality Acceptance. Quality Planning focuses on defining quality for the deliverables and deciding on the best policies to achieve that quality, and what benchmark would be used to measure quality during the Execution, Monitoring and Controlling, and Closing stages.

Enviorment Assessment

The purpose of the Environmental Assessment is to ensure that the project is developed in an environmentally sound and sustainable manner ensuring all possible negative impacts are mitigated and positive impacts are enhanced. Environmental Assessment is conducted to fulfill the requirements of Government of Bangladesh and World Bank as well as to obtain the Environmental Clearance Certificate (ECC) from the DoE (Department of Environment) according to the Environmental Conservation Rules 1997.

Social Assessment

According to the RIVER Environmental and Social Management Framework Work and International Association for Social Assessment, “Social assessment includes the processes of analyzing, monitoring and managing the intended and unintended social consequences, both positive and negative, of planned interventions (policies, programs, plans, projects) and any social change processes invoked by those interventions. Its primary purpose is to bring about a more sustainable and equitable biophysical and human environment.”
